Although painting wood is both expensive and complex, stained furniture is very popular. Many manufacturers stain inexpensive wood species to look like more expensive ones. For this purpose, factories are equipped with painting and drying booths and staffed by trained specialists. This makes it possible to expand the product range and offer clients a variety of color options.
Painting the wooden surface of a piece involves several stages:
- cleaning;
- sanding;
- filling;
- priming;
- painting;
- drying;
- polishing.
To achieve an excellent result, some stages need to be repeated. Finishing a single piece can take anywhere from a week to a month.
We Paint MDF Furniture
What should wood or MDF furniture be finished with? For solid colors, we use polyurethane enamels that make the pieces especially strong and durable. You can paint either the entire piece or individual parts of it - fronts, countertops and so on.
How do you paint wood to create stylized furniture? One popular styling method is artificial aging. This technique includes staining, wire brushing, a distressed effect and imitation of woodworm marks. Artificially aged furniture fits perfectly into interior styles such as vintage and retro.
For the sought-after country and Provence styles, furniture is painted white, and more complex painting techniques are used as well - spattering and glazing, plus multi-layer staining. Such pieces fill a home with a mood of joy and celebration.
Lacquering Wooden Products
Lacquering wood is a process in which all its pores are filled with lacquer. The piece becomes resistant to moisture and dust, and the surface itself gains an interesting pattern.
There are several ways to apply lacquer. Here is how wood is lacquered:
- lacquer is applied so that all irregularities are carefully filled;
- the lacquer coat is removed with abrasives, remaining only in the pores and cracks;
- a second coat is applied, serving as a preliminary primer;
- the surface is wiped free of dust;
- a thin third coat of lacquer is applied;
- after drying, a finish coat is applied;
- the lacquer is polished after finishing.
Our craftsmen know exactly how to apply lacquer to wood evenly, quickly and to a high standard.
How Is Wood Stained?
Many inexpensive wood species have a yellow, amber color that doesn't always suit the interior. In that case, the wood needs staining to give it the desired color or shade. Stained wood lets the furniture keep “breathing” and preserves its natural grain.
Light wood species can be stained in any shade - yellow, brown, burgundy - and decorated with ornamental painting typical of the country or Provence styles.
As a result, painted wooden products gain the following properties:
- wear resistance;
- increased strength;
- weather resistance.
In terms of appearance, lacquered, painted and stained furniture can be:
- matte;
- glossy;
- semi-gloss.
Masiv offers all types of wood lacquering and polishing, as well as painting and staining of custom furniture.
