Veneer
Veneer is a very thin slice of wood, ranging from 0.1 to 10 mm in thickness. There are four ways to produce it:
- sawn veneer: produced by sawing boards; used in the manufacture of laminate and parquet flooring;
- fine-line veneer: made from softwood chips in the form of sheets. Since its texture is always uniform, you can obtain pieces with an identical pattern;
- sliced veneer: obtained by slicing wooden blocks; used to cover furniture;
- rotary-cut veneer: made on special equipment; used to produce plywood.
Various wood species can serve as raw material; at Masiv these include oak veneer, European walnut veneer, American walnut veneer, maple and rosewood veneer, Karelian birch veneer, zebrano and ash veneer.
The secret of veneer's success lies in its lower price compared to solid wood, and in the fact that products made from veneered panels use far fewer trees than solid wood furniture. Veneer elements can be combined by color and pattern within a single piece, which is impossible with solid wood. In veneered furniture, the visible surfaces are covered with a thin sheet of wood laid over an MDF panel. The production of such furniture is automated and uses chips, lacquer, glue and paint.
Solid Wood
Solid wood furniture is made 100% of wood - both the frame and the interior. It is not cheap, since it is most often made to order to individual designs rather than mass-produced in factories. Such furniture is eco-friendly, and many of its elements are made by hand. Solid wood furniture production uses sanding equipment, saws and pneumatic guns.
A common misconception about solid wood furniture is that it doesn't last. That only happens when wood-drying technology is not followed. Furniture made from properly dried wood will serve for 20 years or more without any problems. Its advantages include an attractive, prestigious look, a pleasant scent and the individuality of every piece.
For natural wood furniture, Masiv uses the following species: solid beech, solid ash, solid walnut, mahogany and solid maple.
Materials for Cabinet Furniture
Most of Masiv's cabinet furniture is made from wood-based materials. For custom furniture we use solid wood, as well as MDF, moisture-resistant particleboard and furniture-grade plywood. In addition to traditional materials, glass, plastic and mirrors are often used for decoration.
Natural wood is most often used to make fronts and frames of cabinet furniture, as well as its trim. The quality of the pieces depends on proper drying and the absence of knots and cracks. It looks expensive and luxurious and is used in country villas, upscale hotels and restaurants.
Particleboard is laminated chipboard that serves as the base for many types of modern cabinet furniture. It looks attractive and has excellent performance properties. It is available in a variety of textures and colors.
Moisture-resistant MDF is a medium-density fiberboard. It is made by pressing fine wood fibers under high pressure at the appropriate temperature. It is resistant to moisture and mechanical damage. It is used for kitchen, bedroom, living room and children's room furniture.
Furniture Fabrics
Upholstery fabric plays a key role in upholstered furniture - it is what makes a piece look attractive. Masiv uses only high-quality upholstery fabrics with the best characteristics: wear resistance, durability, unique textures and fashionable patterns. In addition, upholstered furniture must be quick and easy to clean, especially when it is used in high-traffic places such as hotels, restaurants and other venues. We offer our clients a choice of upholstery fabrics: furniture velour, microfiber, genuine furniture leather, jacquard, tapestry, furniture eco-leather and more. Our fabric range is constantly expanding, so everyone can find and order exactly what suits them.
Paints and Finishes
For wooden pieces to look flawless, they need high-quality protection, which is provided by paints and finishes. They give inexpensive wood a rich look and protect premium species reliably from external influences and mechanical damage. A skillfully applied finish highlights the natural beauty of the wood grain. Masiv uses paints and finishes from brands that have proven themselves in this segment: Sayerlack, Adler Lacke, Remmers, Ilva, Kemichal. All our lacquers and paints are non-toxic and reliable, preserve the wood grain, and offer a noble sheen, good transparency, moisture resistance and a rich color palette.
